Books with African themes are not easy to come by.
For instance, I’m still waiting to get a copy of children’s books on Wangari Maathai. Thus, I was happy to be given a review copy of The Meerkat Wars by HS Toschack
, which has the following blurb:

My toddler is learning to talk and her favourite DVDs now are the “Dora the Explorer” series. It’s quite interesting because her elder brother’s favourite DVDs when he was learning to talk were the same ones!

Happy Easter!
Since Easter marks a new beginning, I’d like to share a new beginning for me too – a new beginning in the world of cooking.
Here’s the first recipe I tried with 100% success 
Last Saturday, I tried out the Gold Medal flour Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies recipe, which I’d been thinking about for ages.
Furthermore, the bag of unbleached flour was sitting sitting quietly on my fridge waiting for weevils since the last time I blogged about my banana pancakes. That was 6 months ago!
Of course, my son was all excited about it because
i) he loves chocolate and

Nowadays, almost every kindergarten or preschool programme I know is incorporating the phonics approach to teach children how to read.
Many parents find it difficult to help their kids with phonics because most of us probably learned our ABCs the old-fashioned way i.e. A for “apple”, B for “ball” and C for “cat”. [Read more…]
